Herb Smith is retired from teaching ESL related courses at all levels for many years. He lives in Eugene, Oregon with his wife, Glenda, and is a published author of several works, mostly plays and musicals for young people and children. He is a musician, a pianist and composer, and has worked in music as well as language all his life.

His hobbies include travel and reading, which he has combined in his latest effort, Cairo, The Mother Of The World.

The author has lived in several countries and on five continents during his teaching years. A fellow teacher once told him that he would find essentially the “same” people everywhere he traveled to work, and he has found that to be true. There seems to be a “type” of person who becomes an expatriate, and the author is included in their company.
