fUTURE fICTION - new talking fiction

October 1998 - fUTURE fICTION is a collection of original short stories on three cassettes to be launched on July 1st by Pansy Productions. Gathered together under the titles Dark Drama, Romance and Children's, each cassette presents a selection of original stories narrated and performed by a cast of renowned actors. Music and sound-effects have been added to enhance the dramatic interpretations, while the sparkling production creates a contemporary concept in audio story-telling.
The recordings were all produced and engineered by Deborah Smith of Pansy Productions, an independent publishing company, following a competition for new writers announced through the pages of Time Out, Writers' News and organisations such as the Women's Radio Group.
Smith, and fellow judges Lyn Westerman and Georgina Brown -- both leading, published writers -- chose the winning stories from hundreds of manuscripts submitted from across Europe.
The sixteen stories making up the first release for fUTURE fICTION were selected for their originality and verve. "The vast majority of talking books are usually non-fiction, the classics and best-sellers," says Smith. "We wanted to broaden the scope offered by audio books, and also to offer a format which was more suited to our modern lifestyles: leisure time is at a premium and each story averages 15 minutes of intense story-telling"
The second series of fUTURE fICTION is already being planned and Pansy Productions will be running a further national and international competition later this year in order to showcase new writers. "There is so much talent out there," says Smith, "and, as talking books are one of the fastest growing sectors in publishing, they are the perfect medium for showcasing burgeoning, innovative artists."
The first three-cassettes package from fUTURE fICTION will retail for £7.99 and will be available through many leading book and record retailers.
