March 2001 - Tempe, AZ - Before you begin to build your Web site, it's important to understand the anatomy of a Web site. Or, to put it more bluntly, before you just start "slapping pages together" for your site, you need to have a plan. Successful eCommerce, whether you are selling a single book or hundreds, has a lot to do with the quality of your Web site design, and that starts with a well-developed plan.

This Saturday, February 10, at an all-day "Mini-Publishing University" in Tempe, Mary Westheimer, a founder and CEO of BookZone, the Internet's largest publishing community, will join a distinguished panel of publishing experts to present "The Anatomy Of A Web Site," a seminar that offers tips and insights into the planning and development of a successful Web site. Whether you are building your site from scratch, or upgrading an existing site, proper planning not only saves money in the costs of development, but can easily lead to a more visible and profitable Web site as well. "When we started BookZone six years ago, "says Westheimer, "we had to explain to many people what the Internet was. Today we host several small and mid-sized publishers who are earning five and six figures annually from their Web sites."

As one of the world's most recognized and knowledgeable experts on publishing Web sites and promotion, Westheimer has gathered a wealth of experience through working with more than 3,500 publishing professionals that her company has served online. Since 1994, BookZone, Inc., based in Scottsdale, has been helping publishers, authors, distributors, and others in the publishing industry to successfully sell their books through developing, hosting, and promoting their presence online. The BookZone.com Web site receives more than 9 million visitors a year.

Westheimer's seminar panel will address, step-by-step, what is involved in Web site development and marketing. Also included on the panel will be Clay Sherman, Major Accounts Director of BookZone, who will add his experience and knowledge of the technology of a Web site. "The Anatomy Of A Web Site" is part of the Mini-Publishing University, a one-day event that is being cosponsored by the Publishers Marketing Association and the Arizona Book Publishing Association. The seminars will begin with a 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. registration and continental breakfast at Fiesta Inn, in Tempe, with the first of several seminars for and by publishing professionals beginning at 8:30 a.m. Fees vary for the event and are based upon membership status and the number of seminars attended. Reservations are required. For more information about this event, those interested may call PMA at 310-372-2732 or visit PMA's Web site at www.pma-online.org/minipub.cfm
